Australia's leading Para-Equestrian riders have set their sights on Hong Kong after the Australian Paralympic Committee (APC) announced the team to take on the world at the 2008 Paralympic Games.
The five riders selected are: Grace Bowman (Moonta, SA), Georgia Bruce (Kuranda, QLD), Sharon Jarvis (Donnybrook, WA), Nicole Kullen (Rock Forest, NSW) and Jan Pike (Winston Hills, NSW.)
Despite their brief history in Paralympic competition, the Australian Para-Equestrian team have built a formidable record. The Australian Team picked up:
- 2 gold & 2 bronze medals at Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games
- 1 silver & 1 bronze medals in 2004 Athens Paralympic Games
Expectations are high that they can add to that tally in the 2008 Paralympics.
"Australians have high expectations of their Paralympic athletes and I am confident that the 2008 Australian Paralympic Team will continue this country's strong tradition of achievement."
- Darren Peters CEO Australian Paralympic Committee
"This is certainly the strongest team we have put together in my opinion. There is a very good mix of skill levels and every member of the team has a great support team behind them which is important. The team has been training solidly for two years under head coach Mary Longden and we're confident of a very good performance at the Games."
- Ken Dagley Australian Para-Equestrian Chief d’Équipe
